Project in Firm Art Lab in Brussel

For this project I made a large mural, which had to be integrated into a performance. Due to Covid 19, this performance was unfortunately never able to take place, but we were able to record a trailer :

I made this animated dance film together with the Liège dance company JC Choreography for the online edition of the day of dance on 25/04/2020. Normally we would have had a first try-out with our performance on that day, but due to Covid-19 the festival was canceled. An online edition was organized that day, for which we made the video Sketches of Emotion. This video is linked to our current performance.

Therefore, we tried to be creative during the lockdown and created the video ‘Sketches of Emotion' by working independently because of the quarantine. Both dancers had to create a choreography in their living room and record it outside, which resulted in two separate dance pieces. Then I went to my atelier and started to make
drawings in relation to the recordings of the dancers and their movements; these drawings are quick sketches, made in a few seconds. Rather than displaying an exact image, I attempted to capture both the emotions and the movements emerging from the dancers.

At the end of this process, we handed the different materials to the video artist Ilke De Vries, who integrated the drawings into the movie and with whom we elaborated the composition. The intention was mainly to achieve a result in which the sketches enter a game with the dancers. In these uncertain times, the best we could do was to work apart but in a collaborative way

During the second lockdown period, in December 2020, we decided to create an online performance. This enabled us to remain artistically active even though our art residence was closing its doors.
